Backwards Music / Whales

This is a copy of The Numbers Racket CD-ROM, which I prepared back in 1998. I am presenting it here, unedited, for historical purposes. Obviously most if not all of the information is 'out of date' today, but think of it as a snapshot of what the Spy Numbers scene was like in the late 1990s.

This station transmits rising and falling audio tones that sound somewhat like whale song. It also has been heard with other bizzare sounds, originally incorrectly described as backwards music - and that original name for the station has stuck.

Sometimes RTTY is also heard in between the "music" and "whale song", leading some to believe that the station's purpose is to hold the frequency in between data transmissions.
