This is a copy of The Numbers Racket CD-ROM, which I prepared back in 1998. I am presenting it here, unedited, for historical purposes. Obviously most if not all of the information is 'out of date' today, but think of it as a snapshot of what the Spy Numbers scene was like in the late 1990s.

Swedish Rhapsody

Swedish Rhapsody

Like many of the European Numbers Stations, this one gets it's name from the musical interval signal it plays at the beginning of each transmission. A few seconds of the song is played on what sounds like a music box, followed by the YL calling out the identifier in German. This is repeat for five minutes, and is followed by "achtung" and the message text in 5FG groups. Each group is repeated. The message concludes with "ende". The YL used has a very distinctive high-pitched voice.

This is believed by many to be the longest running Numbers Station, dating back to the 1950's.

The following frequencies are reported:

3823
3835
4832
5340
5748
6200
6507
7250
8188
Transmissions generally start on the hour, although some do start on the half hour. The station has a rather complicated schedule, which has a month long period. Both AM and SSB modes are used.

The station also has a morse code counterpart, using the following frequencies:

4195
5340

The station has recently undergone a major transformation, and now transmits in English, using the same voice as The Counting Station!

Transmissions start at three minutes before the hour, and a count is given two minutes.

Example:

Monday 22 June 1998 1157 8188 English Female SSB
Count 0 to 9 Each figure repeated 5 times for 2 minutes
40764 40764 66577 66577 55357 55357 ( 3 IDs Repeated 3 times)
40764 40764 100 double 5 figure groups 66577 66577 100 Double 5 figure
groups 55357 55357 100 double 5 figure groups, End
