This is a copy of The Numbers Racket CD-ROM, which I prepared back in 1998. I am presenting it here, unedited, for historical purposes. Obviously most if not all of the information is 'out of date' today, but think of it as a snapshot of what the Spy Numbers scene was like in the late 1990s.

Enjoy!

Gongs or Chimes

Gongs or Chimes

This station opened with a very unusual recording of what sound somewhat like the bells used by a lighthouse to wars ships of the coast during foggy weather. The tune consisted of eight notes "Fa Me Ray Do Ray Me Fa So"

After the eerie musical introduction, a woman would practiclaly shout (in German) the five digit headers for the messages to follow, each followed by a trennung (slash) and the number of groups in that message (two digits). This was followed by "achtung" and the first message.

This station always used the frequency 3285 kHz. Transmissions weer usually between 0400-0600 and 1700-2100 UTC. The station was last heard during May, 1990.
