This is a copy of The Numbers Racket CD-ROM, which I prepared back in 1998. I am presenting it here, unedited, for historical purposes. Obviously most if not all of the information is 'out of date' today, but think of it as a snapshot of what the Spy Numbers scene was like in the late 1990s.

The Cherry Picker

The Cherry Picker

The Cherry Picker (aka Cherry Ripe) is the sister station to The Lincolnshire Poacher

Like the Poacher, it plays a folk tune, Cherry Ripe, before each transmission. This station is also believed to be operated by MI6, the British intelligence agency. The transmitter site for The Cherry Picker is believed to be in the Far East.

Here's a typical transmission...

Cherry Ripe tune Repeated twelve times
07513 Identifier is repeated ten times
6 musical notes Message about to begin (sent at ten minutes past the hour)
83840 83840 57389 57389 ... Message text, always 200 five figure groups, each rpt
Transmissions begin on the hour, and are active throughout much of the day. Three frequencies are generally used for each transmission, like the Lincolnshire Poacher. Broadcasts are only on weekdays (Monday - Friday).
